______________
Coffee from the Pérez Zeledón region of southern Costa Rica is known for its vibrant clarity, elegant sweetness, and mountain-grown refinement. Nestled between the Talamanca mountain range and the Pacific slopes, this region’s high elevations—often reaching 1,200–1,700 meters—combined with mineral-rich soils and distinct wet and dry seasons, create ideal conditions for developing complex, high-density beans.
At a medium-light roast, Pérez Zeledón coffee expresses its brightest and most nuanced characteristics. The cup opens with lively citrus notes—think orange zest or sweet lime—balanced by crisp green apple or pear. As it settles, layers of honeyed sweetness and light caramel emerge, complemented by delicate floral undertones reminiscent of jasmine or orange blossom.
The body is smooth and medium-light, with a silky mouthfeel that enhances its refined structure. Acidity is bright yet balanced—clean rather than sharp—giving the coffee a refreshing, tea-like elegance. A lingering finish carries hints of raw sugar and subtle stone fruit, leaving a pleasantly sweet impression.
Often fully washed (wet-processed), coffees from Pérez Zeledón are celebrated for their clarity and balance. In a medium-light roast, these qualities shine, making it an excellent choice for pour-over, Chemex, or other filter brewing methods that highlight brightness and aromatics.
The result is a lively, polished cup—sweet, crisp, and distinctly expressive of southern Costa Rica’s highland terroir.
